Economic relations between Romania and Russia Federation

At the end of 2012, bilateral trade between Romania and the Russian Federation stood at USD 4.422 billion dollars (up 1,8% from 2011).

Romanian imports from Russia stood at USD 3070,8 million (up 4,9% from 2011), while the value of exports was 1351,3 million (down 4,6% from 2011).

 

  • On November 2008, the President of The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania Mr. Mihail Vlasov made a visit to Russia at the invitation of the President of the Russian Federation Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mr. Evgeni Primakov. On this occasion was signed Collaboration Agreement between the Romanian and Russian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. 
  • Between May 20-21, 2009 the Romanian minister of economy, Adriean Videanu arrived on a visit to the Russian Federation. During the visit Romanian minister met with the Energy Minister Serghey Smatko, the Minister of Education and Science, Andrei Fursenko, the President of the Russian party in the Intergovernmental Romanian Russian Commission for Economic and Technical and Scientific Cooperation and the Gazprom’s vice-president, Alexandr Medvedev.

        On this occasion were discussed Romanian – Russian cooperation in the energy field, construction of underground deposits of natural gas storage in Romania, participation of Russian companies in building natural gas firing power plants in Romania, rehabilitation and upgrading projects for Romanian power plants.Romanian Economy Minister met with the TMK, Lukoil and Mechel leadership with business interests in Romania.It was agreed with Minister Andrei Fursenko to organize the 10th session of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Technical and Scientific Cooperation between Romania and the Russian Federation
  •  June 15 - 17, 2009, Romanian Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Elena Udrea made a visit to Russian Federation where she discussed with the Minister of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy, Mr. Vitaly Mutko, with the President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Mr. Alksandr Sohyn, with the President of the Russian Association of Travel Agencies and with numerous tour operators for Romania.                       On the occasion of the visit, the Romanian Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Elena Udrea and the Russian Minister of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy, Mr. Vitaly Mutko signed a common Declaration concerning the development of cooperation in the tourism area.

  • June 22 – 26, 2009, a Romanian economic delegation led by Maria Parcalabescu, State Secretary in the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises, Commerce and Business Environment, and composed by the representatives of 36 companies with export activities in the fields of engineering, confection, extraction industry, furniture, food industry, housing, chemical industry, leather goods and footwear, made a visit to Russian Federation.

     On the occasion of the visit, in Moscow and Tyumen were organized Romanian – Russian Business Forums, with the support of Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (in Moscow) and the support of Tyumen Governor, Vladimir Iakushev and of the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry (in Siberia).
     The display of the two Business Forums and the direct negotiations between Romanian and Russian businessmen underlined the mutual interest for the development of the business connections between Romania and Russian Federation. 
  • February 17, 2010, the Vice-President of Gazprom Mr. Alexandr Medvedev made a visit to Bucharest.

  • On October 13, 2010, a delegation headed by Gazprom CEO, Alexei Miller, visited Bucharest.
     The main theme of discussions was cooperation between Romania and Russia in the energy sphere. The Russian delegation was received by Prime minister Emil Boc and Minister of economy, commerce and business environment, Ion Ariton.

  • May 18-19, 2010 Mr. Constantin Mihail Grigorie, the Ambassador of Romania to the Russian Federation paid a visit to the Republic of Tatarstan. At the meetings held with the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Minister of Economy and Commerce and with the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tatarstan, interest in developing the economic cooperation between the Republic of Tatarstan and Romania with highlighting specific areas of interest for the development of the economic relations between Romania and the Republic of Tatarstan has been expressed.

  • June 16-17, 2010, Adriean Videanu, the Minister of the Economy, Commerce and Business Environment of Romania visited Moscow. On this occasion was discussed the bilateral cooperation in the energetic sphere.

  • November 17-18, 2010, a delegation led by Gheorghe Nastasia, general secretary of the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism, paid a visit to Moscow to launch the national tourism brand of Romania. The delegation had meetings with the presidents of the Tourism Association from the Russian Federation, The Federal Agency for Tourism of the Russian Federation, The Association of Tour Operators of Russia and various tour operators from Russia.

  • On December 14, 2010, within the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, The Business Council for Cooperation with Romania was created, a structure meant to stimulate the economic relations with Romania.

  • On February 22, 2011, within the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bucharest, The Business Council for Economic Cooperation with Russian Federation was created. This new created structure is the partner of the Business Council for Cooperation with Romania.

  • On October 3rd-5th, 2011, in Moscow took place the 10th session of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Technical and Scientific Cooperation between Romania and Russia.
     On this occasion, Romanian co-chair in Commission, Minister of economy Ion Ariton, met with Gazprom President, Alexei Miller, and with the Mechel and Lukoil management.

  • On October 6th-9th, 2011, Valeriu Tabara, Romanian Minister of agriculture and rural development, participated in Moscow at the reunion of BSEC member states Ministers of Agriculture.
     On this occasion Romanian Minister of agriculture and rural development, Valeriu Tabara, met with his Russian counterpart Elena Skrynnik. The Ministers discussed about the current stage of bilateral relations in the agriculture field and established the main directions to develop them in the future.

  • October, 2011, a delegation of the Romanian Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure headed by the secretary of state Eugen Pistru attended in Moscow the Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Transport of the BSEC Member States.

  • November, 2011, Sorin Dimitriu,  the president oh the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry paid a visit to Moscow. On this occasion was signed a Agreement for Cooperation with the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

  • During his visit to Moscow on September 13, 2012, Gelu Stefan Diaconu, secretary of state of the Romanian Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business Environment met with Gazprom Vice-President Alexandr Medvedev. On this occasion bilateral relations in the energy sphere, especially in the gas sector, were discussed.

  • During his visit to Bucharest on October 8-9, 2012, Konstantin Kosacev, the chief of „Rossotrudnicestvo” and co-president of the Intergovernmental Romanian-Russian Commission for Economic and Technical and Scientific Cooperation met with Daniel Chitoiu, minister of Economy, Commerce and Business Environment, also co-president of the Intergovernmental Romanian-Russian Commission for Economic and Technical and Scientific Cooperation. Among the topics on the agenda - the current stage of bilateral relations and future perspectives of bilateral economic cooperation. It was agreed that the XI session of the Intergovernmental Commission would take place in the first part of 2013.

  •  During his visit to Moscow on October 10-11, 2012, Daniel Constantin, Romanian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development participated at the International Fair „Gold Autumn” and met with Nikolai Fedorov, Russian Minister of Agriculture. On this occasion the two officials analyzed the current stage of bilateral relations in this sphere and established the main directions to develop them in the future. The two ministers have agreed to undertake the necessary steps so that the beef imports from Romania to the Russian Federation could be resumed.

  • 18-19 April 2013, in Bucharest took place the XI annual session of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic and Technical - Scientific Cooperation between Romania and Russia. The Commission was co-chaired by the Minister of Economy Varujan Vosganian and the head of the Federal Agency for Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo), Konstantin Kosachev.

    On this occasion, the head of Rossotrudnichestvo was received by the Prime Minister of Romania, Victor Ponta, and met with the Minister of Economy, Varujan Vosganian, with the Minister for Energy, Constantin Nita and with members of the two Chambers of the of Romanian Parliament.

    The agenda of the XI annual session of the Commission included a plenary session and working groups on trade and investment, energy industry, scientific research and agriculture.

    Both parties expressed their willingness to boost bilateral cooperation in the economic and scientific fields.

    The meeting concluded with the signing of the Protocol of the XI annual session of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic and Technical - Scientific Cooperation between Romania and Russia.

    The parties agreed that the XII Session of the Commission is to be held in Moscow in 2014.
