Brief history

  • On September 27/October 15, 1878 Romania established diplomatic relations with Russia at legation level;
  • On January 15/28, 1918 Romania interrupted diplomatic relations with Russia;
  • On June 9, 1934 Romania established diplomatic relations with USSR;
  • On June 22, 1941 Romania interrupted diplomatic relations with USSR;
  • On August 6, 1945 Romania re-established diplomatic relations with USSR, replacing legation with the embassy;
  • After the dissolution of USSR, diplomatic and consular representations of USSR in Romania became diplomatic and consular representations of the Russian Federation, while Romanian diplomatic mission in Moscow became Embassy of Romania in the Russian Federation;
  • On July 5, 2003 Consulate General of Romania in Saint Petersburg was inaugurated.
  • On October 12, 2005 Consulate General of Romania in Rostov-on-Don was inaugurated.
  • On January 16, 2014 Mr. Vasile SOARE presented the letter of credence to the President of Russian Federation, Mr. Vladimir Putin, as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Russian Federation.
